💦 Revving Up Revenue: Angkasosyo Hubs Turbocharge Biker Businesses

By Tobias Bautista

philstar

Angkas, the motorcycle taxi company, unveiled its Angkasosyo Hub in July 2023, turbocharging its biker community's entrepreneurial spirit. Inspired by chapter president Allen Llevan, the hub scheme has been a game-changer for riders-turned-entrepreneurs.

CEO George Royeca cheers on these side hustles, aiming to rev up biker incomes and inspire others to hit the entrepreneurial road. Here's the lowdown: bikers with businesses can now convert them into Angkasosyo hubs, offering a pit stop for fellow riders.

In return, these hub owners get free snacks, coffee, and a sweet P10 discount on their tab for each Angkas rider visit. These discounts are reimbursed by Angkas to Angkasosyo owners. It's been a blessing for Llevan, doubling his daily earnings to a cool P1,500, all thanks to the Angkasosyo boost.

🛶 From Peril to Promise: A Tale of Survival at Sea

By Tobias Bautista

Ngouda Dione, Reuters

In a daring bid for a brighter future, 101 men and boys from a Senegalese fishing village embarked on a risky journey last July, aiming for Europe's shores. Yet, what began as a hopeful venture turned into a brutal battle for survival.

Adrift on the vast Atlantic Ocean, their wooden boat transformed into a floating prison, besieged by challenges and tragedies. With thirst as their relentless foe, they resorted to drinking seawater, a fatal choice that claimed many lives.

For survivor Birane Mbaye, the memories of that five-week odyssey are haunting. Amidst the desperation and loss, the dream of a better life endures.

Back in Fass Boye, a village ensnared by poverty, Mbaye reflects on his gamble for prosperity abroad. Yet, their journey was fraught with peril, leaving them stranded at sea, fuel and supplies dwindling.

Then, on August 14, a ray of hope emerged. A Spanish vessel spotted their distress, offering a lifeline to the few who remained. Now, back on land, Mbaye grapples with the trauma, finding solace in family and community.

Undeterred by his past, he stands resilient, ready to embrace whatever opportunities come his way. For him, while the journey was perilous, the hope for a brighter tomorrow remains steadfast.

Tesla's CEO, Elon Musk, made waves in Beijing with an unexpected visit to chat about some big plans. Musk met with Premier Li Qiang, chatting about Tesla's strides in China - kind of like a meeting of the minds in a high-tech tea party (A Premier is the highest administrative position in China).

But the juiciest gossip? Musk hinted at rolling out Full Self-Driving (FSD) software in China, giving Tesla fans some hope for futuristic rides. Analysts are all abuzz, calling it a "major moment" for the electric car giant.

Meanwhile, Musk's visit wasn't just business; he took time to soak in China's auto show scene and even mused about the electric car future in a video clip. And in a plot twist, GM's CEO, Mary Barra, popped up at the same event, adding some extra star power to the show.

While Tesla's been on a rollercoaster lately with some market jitters and safety probes, Musk's trip to China signals a bold step forward. So, keep your eyes peeled for some high-tech rides hitting the streets soon - who knows, your next taxi might just be a robot!

🐯 UST asserts their dominance against La Salle to end the elimination round

By Koby del Rosario

UAAP

The final showcase of the UAAP Season 86 elimination round had the classic standoff of the UST Golden Tigresses versus the DLSU Lady Spikers where the former went on to win after commanding three straight sets from dropping the first one, 22-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-15.

As 14,939 fans painted the SMART Araneta Coliseum in green and yellow, the must-watch game came with higher stakes as the victor would leave with a twice-to-beat advantage in the Final Four. Chances enough, this would be a virtual game one of a potential best-of-three series between the two powerhouse squads as they would face each other in the semifinals no matter the outcome.

Despite reigning rookie MVP Angel Canino’s return for the Green and White, it was UST’s super rookie Angge Poyos who stole the show—pitching in 22 points on 18 spikes, three blocks, and an ace. Supplementing her was Jonna Perdido with 19 points built on 18 attacks.

For La Salle, Shevana Laput carried the fight with 26 points on 23 attacks, two aces, and a block while the returning Canino poured in 13 points with seven coming in the first set.

On the heels of an exhilarating Season 86, volleyball fans can look forward to an action-packed playoffs as NU, UST, DLSU, and FEU make up an exciting upcoming Final Four. It all tips off this coming Saturday, May 4th.
