Good morning. When we talk about Filipino time, we think of arriving to gatherings at least an hour late (except the airport). While this is a sad reality, what if we re-imagine what Filipino time should be. One of the most basic units of time is the year or taon in Tagalog. Taon is a root word for many beautiful words like pagkakataon (opportunity) and nagkataon (chance). If we just pay more attention to all our pagkakataon (opportunities), maybe we can use time more wisely for everyone’s benefit!

💦 Sea Scuffles: Australia Claps Back at China for Damage to Filipino Vessels

Our friends from the land down under has some strong words for China after a recent scuffle in the West Philippine Sea. On June 17, China disrupted a Philippine resupply mission, injuring a Filipino soldier. Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) called this "an escalation in a pattern of deeply concerning and destabilizing behavior by China."

Just as Chinese Premier Li Qiang wrapped up a four-day visit to Canberra, Australia voiced its "grave concern" over China’s actions against Philippine vessels on a routine mission to the Second Thomas Shoal. According to Australia, China's navy, coast guard, and maritime militia interfered with the mission, leading to the injury of a Filipino soldier and damage to a Philippine ship.

China claims the Philippines caused the collision, but Australia isn’t buying it. DFAT criticized the “forcible boarding and towing of Philippine vessels and the seizure of equipment” as highly destabilizing. Canberra emphasized the importance of adhering to international law, particularly the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

Australia, a strategic partner of the Philippines, stands by its ally amid these tensions. During Premier Li's visit, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese raised concerns about regional security, making it clear that Australia is keeping a watchful eye on the South China Sea drama.

Nvidia’s financials are backing up the buzz. Last quarter, revenue tripled to $26 billion, and net income jumped seven-fold to $14.9 billion. Predictions suggest revenue could hit $120 billion this fiscal year and soar to $160 billion by 2026.
