💦 Like Father Like Son? Rumors of an Ouster

Rumors of a political plot are swirling in Manila, hinting at an attempt to unseat President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. just a year ahead of the 2025 midterm elections. Former senator Antonio Trillanes IV stirred the pot on Tuesday, suggesting that some high-ranking officials within the Philippine National Police are involved, but noting the absence of any support from the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

Trillanes didn't stop there; he pointed fingers at Marcos' predecessor, former president Rodrigo Duterte, suggesting his involvement in the alleged coup effort. "These people won’t budge without Duterte's nod," Trillanes quipped, citing Duterte's public remarks as evidence.

It seems as if Trillanes is always playing the devil’s advocate for the President of the Philippines.

👽 Victor Wembanyama wins 2024 NBA Rookie of the Year Award

San Antonio Spurs’ first-year sensation Victor Wembanyama is announced as the 2024 NBA Rookie of the Year after posting historic averages of 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.6 blocks, 3.9 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. Talk about stuffing the stat sheet in your first year.

Despite the surges in play of OKC Thunder’s Chet Holmgren and Charlotte Hornets’ Brandon Miller, Wemby received all 99 first place votes for the award—making him the first to win it unanimously since Minnesota Timberwolves big man Karl Anthony-Towns in the 2015-2016 season.

Major props to the French unicorn on his first NBA season. Watch out for him to improve and polish his game to tally more wins for the 22-60 San Antonio Spurs (#14) in his sophomore year.

An alien in the game indeed.

🏀 Knicks swipe Pacers to Game 1 win, Nuggets have no answer against T-Wolves in Game 2

May 7th of the 2024 NBA Playoffs had one second-round series commence while another head into Game 2.

In a nail-biting game, the second-seeded New York Knicks pulled through late against the sixth-seeded Indiana Pacers en route to their 121-117 Game 1 victory. Jalen Brunson continued his hot streak with 43 points, six boards, and six assists while glue guy Josh Hart had 24 markers, 13 rebounds, and eight dimes. Shooter Donte DiVincenzo also had 25 of his own on five three-pointers.

The loss did not look pretty for All-Star Tyrese Haliburton as he only had six points and eight caroms while it was center Myles Turner who picked up the slack with 23 points. 

For the third-seeded Minnesota Timberwolves, they’re still on their winning ways as they went up 2-0 against the second-seeded Denver Nuggets after their 106-80 beatdown. Even without stalwart Rudy Gobert, Anthony Edwards and Karl Anthony-Towns paced their team to the victory with 27 points apiece—the latter of which grabbed 12 boards as well.

Denver looks to get in the win column on Game 3 in their homecourt after Nikola Jokic’s 16 point-16 rebound Game 2.

For today, a couple of Game 1’s showcase 2024 NBA Playoff action.
